Type of Venue: Restaurant, Take-Away
Cuisine: Italian (Pizza, Pasta, Mains)
Highly Recommended: Anti-Pasto Pizza, Satay Chicken Pizza

Zesty Pizza is a humble pizza and pasta joint whose speciality lies in take-away orders, though their spacious seating area caters equally well to a relaxed, eat-in experience. Primarily known as a vegan and vegetarian eatery, they have recently started to include some meat options on their menu so as not to exclude any dietary preferences.

All Food

Cosy in style and ambience, this family-run business is casually-low key apart from their large commercial-style pizza oven and contemporary neon-lit decor along the side wall. All about freshness, health and convenience, Zesty Pizza knows how to overwhelm the customer with the impressive variety of choices on their menu. Ranging from starters, to salads, pizzas, pastas, main meals, burgers and desserts, there really is something here for everyone.

Pizzas are made in-house, whose thin yet solid crust and base could be informally recognised as a good ‘take-away’ pizza, as opposed to the more authentic thin-based Neopolitan or Roman style pizzas, for example. In other words, if you remove the expectation of experiencing 400 Gradi-style pizzas at Zesty Pizza, then you will have no qualms about this eatery. Passionate about offering fresh and (where possible) organic ingredients to their customers, most items at Zesty Pizza are made in-house, whilst the option to order a vegan-friendly version is made possible with the use of vegan cheese and mock chicken.

Pizza 1

A vegetarian favourite, the Anti-Pasto pizza is topped with house made pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, semidried tomato, marinated artichoke, roasted capsicum, olives, feta cheese, garlic and fresh shallots. A deliciously light and refreshing option that is loaded with toppings to sufficiently fill you up.

Encompassing subtle Indian spices in each mouthful, Satay Chicken pizza showcases house made satay sauce, mozzarella cheese, onion, freshly marinated chicken pieces and oven roasted fresh capsicums. An enjoyably unique pizza whose flavours are bursting with excitement and varied textures.

Only four pastas are listed on the menu (marinara, carbonara, meat bolognese and vegan bolognese), but this condensed list is appreciated considering the tough choice we had of choosing which pizzas to order out of their incredible range.

The Carbonara features the classic combination of bacon, onions, garlic, shallots, sea salt, parmigiana cheese, egg yolk and cream, resulting in a rich and creamy pasta whose only fault was the overcooking of the pasta, as well as the cutting of the pasta into short strands, thus eliminating the necessary potential to twirl your pasta around the fork and/or to inhale a long strand of spaghetti – both of which usually enhance the experience of enjoying a bowl of pasta.

Carbonara ($14.95)

Greek Salad is a chopped combination of tomato, capsicum, Spanish onions, olives and fresh feta cheese, all tossed in extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. All of the ingredients are organically fresh, though the chopping of the vegetables into small bits made it slightly difficult to eat with the supplied knife and fork.

Considering their intended concept of being a local vegan and vegetarian-friendly pizza and pasta eatery, what they offer fits the brief. Although minor improvements could be made in the execution of some of their items, the fresh quality of their ingredients and their tasty flavours provide the customer with a positive dining experience. Although not really considered an authentic Italian restaurant, their fusion offering is ideal for an easy dinner for young families and couples, or as a late-night supper following a booze-filled night out.

Note: I dined as a guest of Zesty Pizza. Thank you to the owners for their generous hospitality throughout our experience.
