A taste of France in Hawthorn, La Tropezienne has been around since 2005. Locally known for their authentic French pastries, sweet treats and fresh bread, customers have remained loyal to this cute bakery despite the original owner, a French pastry chef, taking a step back from the retail side of things to open up his own baking factory, two years ago. This decision has enabled him to focus on his passion for baking, whilst continuing to supply La Tropezienne with the same quality products that their customers have come to know and love.
A range of classic and modern cakes, pastries, tarts and sweet treats are available daily, whilst a separate cabinet of savoury sandwiches, quiches and salads balance out all of the sweetness.
Raspberry Pistachio Croissant ($6.00)
Getting into the festive spirit, La Tropezienne offers fruit mince pies at this time of year, with their version delivering a deliciously buttery and flaky crust, encasing a generous fruit mince filling. Although my personal preference is for slightly more sweetness and spices in my fruit mince pies, these ones are still a great treat, and are of the perfect size.
Christmas Fruit Mince Pies
Come Easter time, they will start to offer hot cross buns, thus encouraging their continued popularity all year round. Its rustic appearance appropriately mimics the authentic French flare of their products, serving as the ideal location in which to sit and read the paper with a coffee and croissant, or to buy take away breakfast for the family.
Note: I received the fruit mince pies complimentary from La Tropezienne. Thank you to the owners and staff for their hospitality.
